DMC Landmark Tower 01The DMC Landmark Tower was designed under the concept of ”SEOUL LITE”, not only to be a “Light” leading a new millennium for high-tech digital media industry in Korea, but also a new representative  and symbolic icon in Seoul. In particular, environment-friendly elements and advanced digital elements integrated in architectural elements help to make a high-tech and information-oriented building which considers future business trends and life style.

Located in its Digital Media City, the Sangam DMC Landmark Tower will reach a height of 640 metres although 100 metres of the height will be added by a massive aerial / spire which upon consideration, the Capital Defense Command decided would not interfere with air routes or radar.

Designed by S.A.M.O.O. International, the tower will provide 545,844 square metres of space spread over 130 storeys and 6 basement levels. It will house mainly offices and other business type spaces such as conference rooms and convention space but it will also house some residential and commercial space.

The design of the tower is fairly simple – its height making a statement rather than an over the top, outlandish design. Pentagon shaped, the tower gives the impression of being sectioned as it progresses upwards with its final top section, which appears to be balconied having a more rounded appearance.

Its facades will be glass and steel and in places have slight cut outs and ridges which break up the faces of the tower making them look more angled.

At its base a large lobby area cuts into the tower while on the side of the tower a podium connects it to a second shorter skyscraper. Within the grounds of the tower workers and visitors will find a large sunken garden to relax in just of the main outside plaza or if they prefer a huge pond presumably not for fishing in will also feature.

The developers of the project are some of the largest multinational firms in Korea who have all teamed up for the venture Samsung, Hyundai, POSCO and DAERIM.

Ground breaking on the project is expected early 2009 with completion aimed for 2013 but with a boom in proposals for Korea its not certain how long the tower will hold its title of being the tallest.
