Samsung didn’t seek advice against Emaar
Dubai: Samsung C&T Corp, the South Korean contractor that’s building the world’s tallest tower in Dubai, didn’t seek advice for a claim against Emaar Properties from Al Tamimi & Co, the law firm said, denying a report.
"Samsung have never sought advice for any claim against Emaar relating to the Burj Dubai or otherwise," Lisa Dale, head of the firm’s real estate and construction practice, said in a statement.
The firm, which has been advising Samsung since its establishment in Dubai, said it understands that the companies’ relationship on the Burj Dubai is "excellent".
Construction Week had said on August 1 that Samsung, South Korea’s second-biggest contractor, might sue Emaar, the United Arab Emirates’ largest property developer, for $4.1 billion (Dh15 billion).
Construction in the Gulf has been hurt by a lack of financing, causing project delays. Consultants are owed as much as £400 million (Dh2.4 billion) by clients in the UAE, Nelson Ogunshakin, head of Britain’s Association for Consultancy and Engineering, said in May. Samsung also denied it had sought legal advice on the matter in an e-mailed statement yesterdday. When contacted by Bloomberg News, Emaar said on August 1 it doesn’t "comment on rumours and speculation".
